About The Corwins of Bellport
Dedicated to Salem Corwin (1807-1884) and Charlotte Louise Hulse (1813-1900, daughter of David Overton Hulse & Sarah Hallock) of Bellport, Suffolk County, New York.

Married on 11 Oct 1830, together they had ten children. Here you will find information on their descendants, as well as Charlotte's ancestors.

The parentage of Salem Corwin is presently unknown. We know he was born 18 Jan 1807 and died 13 May 1884 due to his gravestone at Woodland Cemetery, Bellport.

Back in 2002, I requested and received a death certificate from the Brookhaven Town Clerks office that said Salem's father was Samuel Corwin of New York and his mother was Keria Youngs of Oyster Bay, Queens City, NY. It also stated that Salem died and was buried in Longwood. I've since learned this was an error, so I'm back looking for answers!

Working with another researcher I found out that, over the decades, others were trying to learn of Salem's true parentage. I received two copies of handwritten research that say two different things.

The first says Salem's father was Samuel Carman of New York, and his mother was Eunice Corwin of Bellport. In parenthesis it says this is copied directly from the official town death records.

The second is a picture of Salem's gravestone with a lot of notes scribbled around it. It lists his wife and their children in great detail, and is quite accurate. It says Salem's father was also named Salem Corwin and was lost at sea. It says his mother was Eunice Halleck.

I'm still trying to learn of his true parentage. In the meantime, this is what I've learned so far and I gladly share it here...
